Pelvic Health Conditions

Pelvic Health physiotherapy focuses on evaluating and treating the pelvic floor muscles, as well as the core, pelvis, lower back, and hips. The pelvic floor muscles play a crucial role in supporting the pelvic bones and internal organs, which are essential for healthy bladder, bowel, and sexual function. Over time, factors such as stress, injury, childbirth, menopause, and overall health can impact how these muscles work. Common pelvic health concerns addressed include urinary incontinence, bowel issues, pelvic organ prolapse, painful intercourse, and pain in the lower back, hips, or pelvis, as well as conditions like endometriosis and more.

Pre/Postnatal Pelvic Health

Pregnancy is filled with new experiences, joy, and anticipation. Many women eagerly await feeling their baby move for the first time and wonder about the symptoms they might encounter along the way. Despite this excitement, many are not informed about how to prepare their pelvic floor for pregnancy, labour, delivery, and the postnatal period. This important topic is often overlooked, even though it should be a standard part of care for every pregnancy journey.

Bedwetting or daytime urinary leakage in children beyond a certain age can be very stressful for families. While it’s common for children aged 4 and older to experience symptoms like bedwetting, daytime incontinence, or chronic constipation, these issues are treatable and do not have to be endured long-term. The International Children’s Continence Society (ICCS) emphasizes that treatment for these conditions is not only justified, but necessary. At Ottawa Pelvic Health, our goal is to support and empower children and their families by helping them understand these symptoms and working together toward effective solutions.
